Phyllis Cosman began carving after her four children had grown
up in 1984. Her polychrome carvings of people generate characters
full of pride and calm. Her
carvings are glimpses of ordinary people seemingly freeze framed in time - a
nurse about to make a decision, a lady guitarist just about to bow. By 1996,
arthritis had limited her output. The Art Gallery of Nova Scotia
bought up everything she made the year before. To own a Cosman
character is a very rare find!
