Maxine Noel signs her artwork with her Santee Oglala Sioux name Ioyan Mani which translates as "Walk Beyond".

It was the name an elder visionary gave her shortly after her birth on the Birdtail Reservation in southwestern Manitoba.

Her presentation is modern with mystical qualities. There is strength and serenity in her flowing lines and colours.
