Douglas Haynes is one of Canada's most imporant modernist painters.
His work has been described as "post-painterly abstraction" or "cubist
abstract expressionist".
This Regina born artist studied at
the Alberta College of Art and at the Royal Academy of Art, Holland.
Haynes taught art and design
at the Univeristy of Alberta
from 1970 to 1995.
Influenced by the analytic cubism of Picasso and Braque and
El Greco's use of light, Douglas is a painter who puts his total faith
in light, colour,
and form against the paper.
Haynes remains one of Canada's most prominent abstract artists.
"The act of painting is the thing. I'm not painting a narrative. It's up to the viewer to provide a dialogue."-Douglas
Haynes 2004
