Alberta born Dorothy Oxborough studied at the Institute of Technology
and Art in Canada and the Vancouver School of Art. She has enjoyed
a 50 year successful
career as an award-winning pastel artist.
In 1966, Oxborough was awarded the
Premier Pastellist of Canada Award and the Gold Medal at the Annual Federation
of Canadian Artists Signature Members Juried
Exhibition.
Her pastels hang in the British Columbia and Nova Scotia Governments,
the Maritime Museum, and the Calgary Bar Association. Her posters
of native children continue
to sell well. This is a pastel original in mint condition. A Rare Find.
Redkettle's
framed original Oxborough has a gallery sticker on the back from
The Isaacs Gallery on Bay Street in Toronto and a sticker that states: "This
is an Original Pastel by the Canadian Artist OXBOROUGH OF BANFF. Oxborough
(Mrs. Dorothy Johnson) Specializes in Indian Child and Animal Portraits".
To
own an original Oxborough is to own an authentic piece of Canadian Culture.
It remains a wonderful time piece.
